RUDY
May 16, 1997 to Dec. 28, 2008
Love is a four letter word and we spelled it RUDY, our beloved toy Poodle. I remember the day we were “just going to look” but when the breeder brought out this little black ball of fluff, our hearts melted. We could not leave that place without him! We were traveling for our job and lived in motels for nearly that first year of his life. He was such a good dog from the very start and learned everything so fast. Playing fetch in the hall of the motels was one of his great joys back then. He learned all the doggy tricks both verbal and through hand signals. He loved to do them with or without treats. It wasn’t until a visit to Colorado when he learned to bark from my brother’s dog, Charlie, but that was ok. After the first year of his life traveling around the country, he had to learn to settle into a regular home and that was no problem for him as long as he was with us. He loved having a yard! If there was someone at the door he’d let you know and if the phone was ringing and you didn’t answer it, he would come and get you. He was a great watch dog. He continued to love traveling though and had the ability to know when we were going somewhere. He would sit at the door with ‘that look’, not moving an inch, until we told him he could go. Then he’d dart out the door to the car and wait to jump in all excited about going. It would only be a minute and he’d be settled into his doggy car seat content as could be. Rudy loved camping too. If we were fishing, he would be right there ready to help pull the fish in. One time the water was just freezing, but he stood there shivering waiting for a fish to be caught. No one was a stranger to Rudy. He thought everyone was his friend, especially children.
His passing has left emptiness in our hearts and in our home. He will be missed forever, but we would never give up the heartache now for all the wonderful memories he left us.
We are so thankful for the service that Dr Kathleen Cooney provides and her kindness and compassion she has for one’s pets. This poem sums up what we feel.

GOODBYE
With heavy hearts; and a tear in our eyes
After all these years; we must say goodbye
Please understand; we’ve done all we could
If there was anything we could do; you know we would
I’m sitting right here; gently rub your ears
While I talk to you softly; trying to hold back the tears
The memories you gave us; we’ll never forget
Especially the ones; of the day we all met
One last hug; and one last kiss
You have no idea; how much you’ll be missed
To look into your eyes; this one last time
You tell me it’s ok; you know it’s your time
Close your eyes now; and go to sleep
We’ll pray to the Lord; you’re soul he’ll keep
Go in peace now; our good friend
We’ll stay right here with you; until the end
Dream of that special day and time
When we’ll meet at the Bridge; and all will be fine
We’ll run and play; side by side
With a soft warm feeling; deep down inside
Your memory will live on; in each one of us
You’ll always be number 1; to all of us
Have a safe journey; through the night
I promise when you awake; you’ll be in God’s light
So with heavy hearts; and tears in our eyes
Just for now my friend; we say goodbye
